Job Title: Assistant Controller – Construction Industry
Job Type: Full-Time | Remote
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Controller with a strong background in construction accounting. This senior-level role is responsible for overseeing complex accounting functions including financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, internal controls, reconciliations, licensing, intercompany transactions, consolidations, and tax preparation. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and contribute to strategic financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Accounting & Financial Reporting
Prepare and review monthly financial reports, including Work in Progress (WIP) reports
Analyze project costs and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
Ensure accuracy and timeliness in all financial reporting
Budgeting & Forecasting
Compliance & Internal Controls
Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and construction regulations
Strengthen and monitor internal control systems
Support audit processes and address findings
Reconciliations & Journal Entries
Oversee monthly reconciliations for general ledger, bank, AR, and AP accounts
Prepare and post accruals, allocations, and intercompany entries
Maintain documentation for all entries in line with accounting standards
Equipment & Fixed Asset Management
Licensing & Permits
Intercompany Invoicing & Consolidation
Banking & Cash Flow
Tax Preparation & Reporting
Prepare and submit local, state, and property tax filings
Support quarterly and year-end tax reporting
Team Leadership
Mentor junior accounting staff
Promote collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and team development
Process & System Improvement
Contribute to system implementations and process improvements
Assist in software migrations (e.g., Vista to Sage 300)
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proficiency in Sage 300 CRE, Vista by Viewpoint, and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong understanding of construction accounting, including job costing and WIP
Experience with prevailing wage, licensing, and multi-entity financials
Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Effective communicator, able to present financial data clearly to diverse stakeholders
High integrity and commitment to compliance
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5–10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in construction accounting
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
Remote position with occasional travel as needed
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and using a computer
Occasional standing, bending, lifting (up to 15 pounds)
Must be able to handle general physical demands of office-based accounting work

Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $100,000.00 per year
