Position Summary
The Packaging Technician is responsible for the operation, setup, and troubleshooting of automated and semi-automated packaging equipment to ensure products are correctly packaged and placed in finished goods inventory. This role involves maintaining equipment, conducting changeovers, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with established guidelines for packaging processes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform shift start-up tasks, including documentation and handoff from the previous shift, to ensure smooth transitions and continuity.
Maintain top and bottom stock on packaging machines, replacing trifoil and seal beads as needed.
Set up and calibrate machine sensors; make adjustments to sealing mechanisms and track bottom stock as required.
Maintain ink levels in print trays, clean trays between runs, and replace print plates when color changes are required.
Conduct changeovers, completing all associated documentation and ensuring compliance with specifications.
Perform routine preventive maintenance and coordinate with Building Services and the Tool Room for necessary repairs or servicing.
Empty the vacuum system to prevent overfill or overflow.
Understand and adhere to MP, PC, WP, STM, and Interim Specifications.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and assist Operators and Leads with material handling, machine adjustments, and cleanup.
Maintain the VP Plex system for scheduling machine operations.
Take proactive steps to prevent nonconformances, offer recommendations for improvements, and verify the effectiveness of operational changes.
Step in as a Team Operator when required to support operations.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment
Work involves operating manufacturing equipment or working in close proximity to it. Exposure to biohazards and/or chemicals may occur.
The work environment can range from a clean room with gowning requirements to a production area that is open, noisy, and has moving equipment.
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and push/pull up to 80 lbs. is required.
Recurring physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, crouching, climbing, and bilateral motions involving the hands, wrists, and upper body.
Requires concentrated visual attention to inspect finished packaging for quality.
Travel is minimal, typically less than 5% of the time.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Skills
Strong understanding of automated and semi-automated machinery and processes.
Sound judgment and troubleshooting skills to address technical issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills to effectively communicate across various levels of the organization.
Proficiency with computers and computerized control systems.
Ability to quickly learn new technologies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED required. A technical school background is desirable.
Up to 3 years of manufacturing experience, with previous exposure to automated and semi-automated packaging equipment preferred.
Pay Details: $27.00 per hour
