Shift: 4 10s (6am-4:30pm M-Th) or 5 8's ( 7am-3:30pm M-F)


Job Overview
The Machinist will analyze specifications, set up and operates machine tools, fits and assemble parts to fabricate components for cutting-edge custom automated manufacturing equipment.  Equipment includes machined components, fabricated parts, and purchased parts such as: robotics, vision systems, pick & place mechanisms, feeders, indexing dials, conveyors, custom drill/tap heads, and custom tooling.
 
A Day In The Life

  • Operate all tool room equipment proficiently. CNC Lathes, Millers, grinders, Bridgeport, manual lathe, grinders  (Some proficiency in CAD a plus)

  • Works with engineers to help develop custom solutions to difficult mechanical problems.  Designs and fabricates and tests proof-of-concept mock-ups to prove out new concepts, and dial-in operating parameters (tool geometry, cutting speeds, feed rates, etc)

  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts

  • Calculates dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations

  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, jig borer, job grinders, grinder and honing machine, to machine or fabricate parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications

  • Smooths flat and contoured surfaces with power grinders, and fits and assembles parts together into assemblies and mechanisms

  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances

  • Heat treats tools and parts

  • Brazes and welds (MIG and TIG a plus) parts

  • Metal fabrication – working with sheet metal

  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part

  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.

  • Lifts machine parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable

  • Occasional  involvement in alignment and fabrication of components on custom automation built in house

  • Some day or overnight travel may be required to support the field service at other Hubbell facilities
     

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent 

  • Prefer four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  But the right candidate with less experience may be considered.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to supply concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios to practical situations.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Pay Details: $54,000.00 to $65,000.00 per year
