1st- 7:00 Am- 3:30 pm w/ OT

2nd- 3:00 pm- 11:00 pm w/ OT

Pay: $22.70


Position Summary

The Line operator is responsible for the daily shipping activities related to any type of product or material on behalf of the company or customer. This role requires regular interaction with customers and shipping carriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.), as well as internal departments such as Production, Sales, EH&S, and Quality/Lab teams to continuously improve systems and processes.

The position demands knowledge in related areas, including shipping, bill of ladings, airbills, invoices, and advanced computer skills to facilitate electronic shipping, label printing, shipment tracking, and invoice generation. This role operates in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment requiring strong multitasking, exceptional customer service, and a proactive attitude.


Decision-Making Responsibilities

  1. Apply logical thinking to effectively follow verbal and written instructions in a safe and efficient manner.

  2. Troubleshoot and optimize shipping processes to ensure timely and efficient deliveries.

  3. Coordinate with production and sales staff to determine and execute task priorities.

  4. Identify and liaise with vendors to optimize shipping services and stay current with shipping technologies.


Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  1. Print and review the daily dispatch plan.

  2. Print packing requests and pull orders from finished goods inventory.

  3. Double-check weight, material type, and heat number of each container and order.

  4. Prepare and attach accurate shipping labels to all outgoing shipments.

  5. Re-weigh every fifth heat to ensure accuracy in the Optimat system.

  6. Shrink wrap, palletize, and band shipments to ensure security during transit.

  7. Prepare shipping documents using company or customer systems.

  8. Generate and manage bills of lading, airbills, or other shipping documents; schedule pickups with carriers.

  9. Assist the Production Control Supervisor with finished goods inventory management.

  10. Post daily shipping recaps in a timely manner.

  11. Order shipping supplies with approval from the Logistics or Sales Manager.

  12. Load trucks and ensure compliance with DOT regulations on weight and distribution.

  13. Maintain effective housekeeping in work and shop areas and follow all safety rules.

  14. Participate in and complete mandatory training programs.

  15. Work independently with minimal supervision.

  16. Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for shipping processes.

  17. Occasionally work in hazardous areas, which may include climbing on trucks or operating forklifts.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a shipping or related manufacturing/logistics role.

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and carrier websites.

  • In-depth understanding of shipping and/or shipping & receiving duties.

  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including metric and imperial units, fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals.

  • Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in both team and independent settings.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, climb, or balance.

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle or manipulate materials.

  • Must wear appropriate PPE, including gloves and possibly a breathing apparatus.

  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs.

  • Vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, color recognition, and the ability to adjust focus.



Pay Details: $22.70 per hour
