Strategic Sourcing Manager:

My client is seeking a results-driven Strategic Sourcing Manager to lead and elevate our sourcing and supply chain strategy across multiple sites and business segments. This highly visible role reports directly to the CFO and collaborates closely with the CEO and SVP of Engineering & Operations. The position is focused on strategic initiatives, not day-to-day purchasing operations, and will play a key role in shaping the future of our supply base.

About the Role:
You will be responsible for designing and executing a global sourcing strategy across three primary facilities — two in the St. Louis, MO area and one in Houston, TX. Working in close coordination with local Purchasing teams (without direct or dotted-line management responsibility), your mission is to strengthen supplier relationships, evaluate sourcing risks, and drive long-term improvements in cost, quality, and supply chain performance.

This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with strong supply chain and technical expertise, who enjoys building relationships, traveling to suppliers, and making a measurable business impact.

Key Responsibilities

I. Develop and Execute Supply Chain Strategy

  • Build and implement sourcing strategies by commodity, material, and supplier capability.

  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships with high-performing (“A”) suppliers.

  • Conduct supply base analysis to identify opportunities for rationalization and cost leverage across business units.

  • Support growth of new and existing product lines through scalable sourcing solutions.

II. Lead International Sourcing Efforts

  • Assess offshore supplier risks and develop mitigation strategies to reduce tariff exposure and business continuity threats.

  • Explore and establish reliable offshore supplier partnerships in emerging regions.

III. Drive Strategic Sourcing Projects

  • Lead supplier development initiatives supporting product launches, design updates, and outsourcing opportunities.

  • Contribute to M&A supply chain due diligence and post-acquisition integration planning.

  • Example initiatives include: outsourcing entire product lines, qualifying suppliers for new applications, and enhancing sourcing support for new technologies.

IV. Improve Cash Flow and Profit Margins

  • Develop tailored inventory strategies to align with product-specific market dynamics.

  • Optimize inventory turnover while supporting business growth goals.

  • Evaluate total cost performance by analyzing supplier on-time delivery, quality, and landed cost.

  • Negotiate supplier agreements to include value-add services like consignment, warehousing, or VMI programs.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.

Experience:

  • 7–10+ years of experience in strategic sourcing or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.

  • Expertise in sourcing machined components, castings, and forgings is required.

  • Experience in the valve, flow control, or metals industry is preferred.

  • Strong technical understanding — ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

  • Proven track record in supplier contract management and negotiations.

  • Comfortable with domestic and international travel.

Skills:

  • Strategic mindset with strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities.

  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

  • Able to influence at all levels of the organization and drive consensus.

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing projects and delivering measurable results.

Total Compensation will include a salary of $140K- $150k + full benefits including health, life, dental and vision with a 401k match and bonus.
